Today is a proud moment for the entire IdeaBox team.
WordPress version 4.8, named “Evans” released today and includes a patch contributed by an IdeaBox team member Monika Rao! This release has many new interesting features like Multimedia widgets covering images, audio, and video, a better editor, newly updated dashboard widget and many more.
WordPress 4.8 Features :
- Widgets updates
The Image Widget
The new image widget makes it possible for users to add an image to a widget without knowing the code. Adding photos to the sidebar, uploading an image from the widget, or using one from the WordPress gallery is easy.
The Video Widget
With the video widget, any Media Library video can be added to a sidebar on the website. Use this to display a welcome video to introduce your site to visitors or promote your latest and greatest content.
Audio Wiget
With the Audio Widget, you can add an audio player to the sidebar or footer of your site. You can add an audio player using any audio file that you uploaded to your site.
- Link Boundaries in Visual Editor
Previously, the selection and editing of the link ends up linking the word next to it or may not move the cursor outside the link element. Link boundaries provide a visual representation of the beginning and end of a link. This helps to avoid adding unnecessary text to a link’s start or end.
- Updated Dashboard widget for WordPress news and events
An updated “WordPress News” dashboard widget that includes news, local meetups, and WordCamps, you will get a great source of local WordPress news every time you log in to your site!
Other Improvements for developers :
- More Accessible Admin Panel Headings
- Removal of Core Support for WMV and WMA Files
- New features and hooks for multisite installations
- Text-Editor JavaScript API
- Media Widgets API
- Customizer Width Variable
WordPress 4.8 “Evans” named after a jazz pianist and composer William John “Bill” Evans.
