WordPress version 5.1 nicknamed “Betty” is released today. The new version following WordPress tradition is named in honor of jazz vocalist Betty Carter.
This release also paves the way for a better, faster and safer WordPress with some essential tools for website administrators and developers.
WordPress 5.1 also brings the following improvements:
Multisite metadata: WordPress 5.1 introduces a new database table to store site related metadata and enable arbitrary site related data to be stored in a multisite / network context.
Cron API: The Cron API has been updated to support the returning of data with new functions and includes new filters to modify the storage of cron. Other behavioral changes affect cron spawning on FastCGI and PHP – FPM 7.0.16 and above servers.
New JS Build Processes: There is a new JavaScript build option, following the extensive code reorganization that started in the release of 5.0
WordPress 5.1 adds Site Health, in particular, focused on security and improving the editor’s overall performance. This release provides a better, faster and safer WordPress with some essential tools for website administrators and developers.
